Image Analysts:

Mahatma Education Society is seeking qualified image analysts to engage in the digitization of satellite imagery at a new Urban Expansion Observatory, being established in conjunction with New York University. The work aims to measure the quality of expansion in urban areas from 1990 – 2010, using high-resolution imagery. The outputs from the analysis will be presented in 2016 at the United Nations Habitat III Conference. The ideal applicant will have experience working with Java Open Street Map, ArcGIS, QGIS, or AutoCAD. All degree levels are acceptable, but preference will be given to applicants who have completed Master’s Degrees. This position is not open to current students. Desired majors include Geomatics, Geography, Architecture, Urban Planning, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology, though all applications will be considered, with experience. The applicant should have excellent attention to detail and decision-making skills. The work to be performed relies on precision, collaborative problem solving, and strong data management.

Image Analyst Supervisors:

Mahatma Education Society is seeking technically skilled managers to coordinate a new Urban Expansion Observatory being established in conjunction with New York University. The Observatory is being established to undertake the digitization of high resolution satellite imagery, in order to measure the quality of urban expansion in the fringe areas of 200 global cities, from 1990 – 2010. The analysis relies on a new and sophisticated sampling methodology. The outputs from the digitization will be analyzed by a Python script which will calculate metrics that will shed light on several urban indicators. These metrics will be presented in 2016 at the United Nations Habitat III Conference.

Two coordinators will oversee approximately 12 image analysts who are undertaking the digitization. This work will consist of monitoring their outputs for quality in Java Open Street Map, using ArcGIS to generate new sampling areas, managing the resultant data, assisting the analysts in problem solving, tracking progress toward quarterly goals, evaluating analysts for the purpose of distributing incentive pay, and operating a Python script in ArcGIS.

Qualified applicants will have several years experience in management in a technical environment, along with a Master’s degree in a related field. Related fields include Geomatics, Geography, Architecture, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering. Qualified applicants must also have experience with ArcGIS and Excel. The applicant should have excellent attention to detail and decision-making skills, and should be able to enforce a high degree of quality control. The work to be performed relies on precision, collaborative problem solving, and strong data management.
